I am not a political activist. I don’t write or read blogs. I only watch two political podcasts (TPM being one of them of course). I don’t write editorials, leave comments, or even send emails to people I don’t know. Until now.

I am furious! It’s 8:30 pm (pacific time) and McCain just conceded. I am not mad at him for conceding in general. I didn’t want him to win. I didn’t want Obama to win. I voted for Ron Paul as a write in because I couldn’t vote for either of the two. I am upset at the process.

As of the time of McCain’s speech:
Alaska still had two hours and thirty minutes left to vote (among other states whose polls were still open).
Less then 1/3rd of the votes from the whole country had been reported.
McCain was only 3 million (less then 1 -point-) behind in the popular vote.

Something is broken.

California’s 55 electoral votes were set for Obama. Does that mean that less then 1% of all Californians voted for McCain? (I only pick on them because they have the most)

Does this mean that the people’s vote really does not count? Does this mean that the Western half of the US (besides CA) have no say in national politics?
We are supposed to be living in a country for the people and by the people; not for the will of the government, for the lobby ‘buy offs’ and by the powerful.

After this election (again, not the outcome, just the timing and the process), after the last election, isn’t it time to look again at the election process and bring the will of the people back to power?
